Almost every other Sunday I teach comprehensive sex education to middle school age children with two other amazing sex educators. This information is extremely important especially in a state that only teaches limited abstinence "education" to children and teenagers. For more information visit the website!
"The Gender Creative Child," by Dr. Diane Ehrensaft is a great follow up to her amazing first book, "Gender Born, Gender Made." I recommend both books to everyone who wants to learn and expand their knowledge on gender.
The Texas Transgender Nondiscrimination Summit is an amazing conference that is held annually in a different Texas collage or university. This year the conference is being held at Stephen F. Austin University on June 9th and 10th!
The conference is open to everyone and I encourage you to check out their website.
"Rethinking Normal: A Memoir in Transition," by Katie Rain Hill (@katierainhill) is another great memoir written by a teen in transition!
Some Assembly Required: The Not-So Secret Life of a Transgender Teen" by Arin Andrews (@arinandrews) is an amazing resource for a child or teenager who may be questioning their gender identity or an ally who wants to learn more. I highly suggest this book
It can be extremely challenging for queer youth who do not see themselves represented in media. I found this book in a used book store a while ago and It is such a great story of Thom, who is gay, and has special powers and is accepted into a league of superheros.
Being able to see yourself reflected in media like television, movies, and books goes a long way to self acceptance and societal change.
The Central Texas Transgender Health Coalition is an amazing organization based out of Austin, Texas. The organization is dedicated to advocacy and education for the transgender and gender non-binary communities. CTTHC will be holding their first conference and health fair this coming September! Check out their website for more information!
A teenage client of mine recently told me that I should read this book. The story is of a trans boy wanting to spend his last year in high school as his true self. However, he would rather be known for his acting and musical abilities instead of his gender identity.
Of course, with a name like, If We Shadows, the infamous Puck does make an appearance. It is a funny, dramatic, and heart warming story.
